Abstract

Presents oral histories of 19 women who worked in the garment industry starting in the first third of the 20th century and who were involved in their respective unions, particularly the ACWA (Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America) and ILGWU (International Ladies Garment Workers Union). They worked mainly in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Eight of the women who worked in Chicago and were involved in the ACWA there participated in the Women's Local, 275, one of the few autonomous women's locals in the country.
